Evelyn Hill Inc. has earned the LEED® Platinum Certification for the new Gift Pavilion on Liberty Island for New Construction. The building is only the fourth Platinum building in the National Park Service and only the fifth in New York City.
Evelyn Hill Inc. proposed building this structure when the concession contract went out to bid in 2008. We were awarded the contract effective, May 2009. The company has always been sensitive to the environment and this was an opportune time to demonstrate their ability. The NPS did not require any environmental initiatives; however Evelyn Hill Inc. offered to construct a LEED® Gold structure. As the design process developed, Evelyn Hill Inc. asked the architect and engineering firms if we could go the extra step to Platinum to reduce our effect on the environment. The building began construction in November 2009 and opened seven months later in June 2010.
Evelyn Hill Inc.’s partners on this project were:
Acheson Doyle Partners Architects, P.C.
Weidlinger Associates, Inc.
P.A. Collins PE Consulting Engineers
