Evelyn Hill Inc. continues to divert100% of all cardboard from their operations to recylcing, saving over 300,000 pounds of waste from landfills each year.

• Recycling All Aluminum Cans (December 2000)
Evelyn Hill Inc. continues to divert 100% of all aluminum cans from their operations to recycling, saving nearly one ton of waste from landfills each year.

• Recycling All Plastic Beverage Containers (December 2008)
Evelyn Hill Inc. continues to divert 100% of all plastic beverage containers from both Liberty and Ellis Islands, saving nearly 75,000 pounds of waste from landfills each year.

• 75% Waste Diversion (December 2008)
Evelyn Hill Inc. diverted 75% of all solid waste generated on Liberty
Island, amounting to nearly 516,000 pounds of waste that did not end up in landfills. This brings the five-year total to 76.5% diversion, saving nearly 2.9 million pounds of waste from being dumped in a landfill.

Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed its Best Management Practice of eliminating all Styrofoam containers from use on Liberty Island. This eliminated nearly 5,000 pounds of this undesirable waste and use of nonrenewable resources every year.

• EMS Certified (June 2007)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed a rigorous audit of their environmental management system which was found to be in full conformance with all clauses of the international standard ISO 14001:2004. A certificate was issued by an internationally accredited registrar confirming international registration. Annual surveillance audits will be conducted.

• SMS Certified (June 2007)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed a rigorous audit of their safety management system which was found to be in full conformance with all clauses of the British standard OHSAS 18001:1999. Evelyn Hill, Inc. purchased 1.1 million kilowatt-hours of wind energy REC's to off-set 100% of all electricity used on Liberty Island. This was a 3-year commitment.

• Beyond Carbon Neutral (March 2006)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. purchased 38.5 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) Verified Carbon Offsets (VER's) to offset use of fuel oil and employee transportation; this was a 3-year commitment. Evelyn Hill, Inc. is now carbon neutral.

• Climate Partners (November 2007)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. joined EPA’s Climate Partners Program as the first known concessionaire for formal disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon neutral commitment.

Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed 100% elimination of incandescent lamps; all lamps are now compact fluorescent lamps or LED's (light-emitting diodes). Estimate total savings in excess of 20,000 kilowatt-hours per year from prior configuration.

• High-Efficiency, Low Mercury Lamps (July 2007)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed 100% switch to high-efficiency and low-mercury fluorescent lamps. Additional savings estimated to be 5,000 kilowatt-hours per year.

• 100% AFV's (January 2000)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed the transition to alternative fueled vehicles (AFV's) for all powered vehicles on Ellis Island and Liberty Island; electric vehicles now in use. More expensive, but better for the environment.

• 100% Recycled-Content Paper (January 2004)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed the transition to 100% recycled post-consumer content office paper amounting to over 50,000 sheets per year.

• 100% Plastic Cups (March 2002)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed the transition to 100% plastic (PET) cups for beverages serviced, thus eliminating nearly one-half million waste cups at an estimated 28,000 pounds to the landfill. All plastic cups, over 42,000 pounds annually, are now shredded and sent to recycling centers.

• Eliminated Personal Condiment Packets (July 2000)
Evelyn Hill Inc. begins utilizing condiments dispensers, thus eliminating over 2 million condiment waste packets.

• Eliminated Personal Dairy Cups (August 2000)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. totally eliminated the use of personal proportion cups for coffee dairy creamer, thus eliminating nearly one-quarter million cups annually.

• Eliminated Paper Dishes (October 2003)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. eliminated the use of Number 641 and 645 paper dishes in food service, thus eliminating nearly 7,000 pounds being sent to the landfill and reduced transportation of 473 cases of product. Reusable food service items now in use with only paper liner discarded.

• Waterless Urinals (September 2000)
Evelyn Hill Inc. employed 100% waterless urinals on Liberty Island, thus saving an estimated 345,000 gallons of water annually.

• Ice Cream Vendor Packing Reduced (May 2004)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. convinced Haagan-Daz to reduce bulk packaging of ice cream bars for shipments to Liberty Island. This eliminated 7,300 pounds of landfill waste annually. Evelyn Hill, Inc. is still the only consumer that is supplied ice cream bars from Haagan-Daz with reduced packaging.

• 100% Recycled Content Napkins (November 2004)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed the transition to 100% post-consumer recycled content napkins, thus eliminating nearly 5 million napkins from virgin material.

• Electronic Vendor Transaction (December 2007)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. completed the transition to all electronic vendor transactions — emailed invoices and payment by credit cards have eliminated nearly 30,000 pieces of paper.

• 100% Recycled Content Bags (August 2006)
Our retail bags are made from 100% recycled content, thus eliminating nearly 2 million bags produced from virgin material.

• First Recycling Center (February 2000)
Evelyn Hill, Inc. established the first concessionaire recycling center. This center is located on Liberty Island and has transitioned over 5 million pounds of waste into recycling markets, thus diverting an enormous volume from landfills since its beginning.
